How will they help me improve my life?

Simply by seeing a Life Coach your life will improve as they are living a congruent life. They want you to move quickly through the ‘things that are no longer serving you’ towards a more empowered place. They will support and believe in you every step of the way. Having a life coach that believes in your goals is very comforting and empowering as they know you can make changes and improve your life. They will also use specialist techniques that they have acquired from their training and life experience. A life coach will approach things pragmatically. Through questions and exercises, s/he will try to get a good idea of how you look at the world. From this they can work alongside every step of the way.

How do I choose a life coach?

The most important thing when choosing a coach is that you have established a rapport with them, it doesn’t matter where in the world they are (providing you want a Coach online/Skype). The Life Coach also needs to have the availability, so as a suggestion select a few coaches and research them, what type of coaching do you need: Is it Business Coaching, Relationship Coaching, Career Coaching. Once you have an idea of where you want to start go to the Browse Coaches and select the filters you need. Also look at what associations they are aligned with, what articles have they written on this website, as well as their social media presence. Lastly look at their fees and if they offer coaching packages. Most Life Coaches also offer a complimentary consultation so ensure you have written down some questions and get these answered in that consult. After all this is the start of your new journey and you need the right life coach by your side.

What is the difference between life coaching and counselling?

The fundamental difference between counselling and life coaching is that counselling usually investigates the roots and causes of potential mental health concerns, your past history, whereas life coaching focuses mainly on the now and looking towards the future to encourage personal-development and self-improvement. Life coaches are not (unless specified) qualified to diagnose or treat any health-related problems, although if the situation arises they may suggest you to see a GP. They may also refer you to see other specialists if they are not the right practitioner for you.

Are your coaches genuine?

Since Life Coaching is an unregulated industry where one could have many Life Coaches that have not undergone any specific life coaching training. Our coaches on Click A Life Coach have done the training, paid for professional insurance and have affiliated themselves with Life Coaching Associations. Every life coach that is listed in our directory is being asked to send through a copy of their credentials. After we review them we display our Click A Life Coach - Verified seal in their listing.
Still, qualifications and memberships mean little if you don't get along with your life coach. The most important thing when choosing a coach is that you have established a rapport with them, it doesn’t matter where in the world they are (providing you are after online/Skype coaching). You need to feel comfortable with your chosen Coach as you need to be brutally honest with yourself and what you want your life to look like.

What happens during a coaching session?

Life coaching sessions usually run between 45 minutes and 60 minutes (depending on the life coach you choose). Sessions can be conducted over the phone, face to face, over email, via Skype.
During the session, your life coach will ask you about what you want to get out of life, why did you come to see a coach? What areas of life are causing you distress and unhappiness and where you'd like to see yourself ending up, what are the positive alternatives for you. Although a life coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas to help you move forward with your life.  You have all the answers for your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you do not feel comfortable with and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately. There is no judgement of your opinions and goals.
Life coaching is seen as a partnership between you and your life coach, who will encourage you and challenge you when needed. Providing you with accountability, feedback and support to explore how to make positive changes in your life and stay focused on those things that matter to you the most.

What is NLP?

NLP focuses upon the detail of how we communicate (externally and internally), how we process, store and recall this communication, and how we can change and empower this communication to achieve the results and goals we want. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is thought to be one of the most effective and accessible self-help methods to come from modern positive psychology. Many life coaches use NLP techniques to help 'reprogramme' clients' patterns of thinking and behaving. NLP gives the Life Coach tools to assist the client and get them moving from one place to another leading to a more inspiring and empowering life.

What are the fees for a life coach?

The cost of a life coaching session will depend on a various factors, including the type of coaching you require, the length of the session and location (some coaches charge travel time depending on where you are located) Saying that on average, coaches can charge anything from $75 to $150 per session (business and corporate coaching can be more expensive). Many coaches offer a complimentary initial consultation, and some may be able to offer discounted services/packages. Just make sure you research this before making a commitment and also they may have flexible payment plans to suit your finances.

How many coaching sessions will I need?

This is a very individual decision. You can have as many or as few life coaching sessions as you like. You are the driver of your life.  Because many life coaches operate over the phone or via the Internet, the sessions can easily fit around your schedule. Some people hire a life coach once every few months, some people have a session once a week, or fortnightly in the beginning to get the momentum going and then may drop to one session a month for keeping on track and touching base with their coach. It is entirely up to you to decide.
