There are many things that are guaranteed in life, paying taxes, death & change are a few that spring to my mind. Not to mention the fears you'll face & overcome, fears that may last a life time.Love found with an open heart & love that seems to tear us apart , only to find an inner strength that we didn't know existed. The one thing that binds them together is change. If this is true? Why are we so resisent to change.Letting go of the old & embracing the new, it was Karl Jung who said what was once true in the morning of our lives will become a lie in the evening of our lives. There's another famous quote that goes as follows, "If you always do what you have always done you'll always get what you've always gotten" UnknownThis quote is so true & there are many different ways you can tap into the habit of adapting to change.Firstly become present to everything that is by focusing on your breath. Notice the changes throughout the day, changes in temperature, a light breeze & changes from da...

It is beneficial and valuable to take regular time-out of our busy lifestyles for reflection. Reflection allows us an opportunity to evaluate our lives and ourselves. Find a peaceful location that is free from distractions and be still so that you can reflect on yourself and areas of your life. During this reflection time ask yourself some important questions and then wait for your inner-guidance to provide you with the answers. Below are some suggestions. What am I doing in my life that is serving me well and that I need to continue doing? What areas of my life and myself can I improve and how can I improve them? What do I need to let go of so that I can experience more of what I want in my life? What patterns of thoughts and behaviours do I need to change and how am I going to do that? What am I learning and how can I apply my learnings to achieve better results in my life? What specific actions do I need to take in my life to be happier? How can I experience more enjoy...

Most people are conscious of the negative consequences of feeding into their body unhealthy foods.   The question I would ask you is “What are the effects of what you have been and are currently feeding into your mind?”   What you feed into your mind will determine what you manifest in your life. A metaphor for this is what a computer programmer codes into computer software will determine the output of what we see on the computer screen.   Similarly what we code into our mind through our thoughts, language (self-talk & verbal) and beliefs will determine what we see, hear, think and experience in our lives.   There is an axiom “Garbage in garbage out”. Are you feeding garbage thoughts, language and beliefs into your mind? e.g. “I can’t do it”, “I am not good enough”, “I am not attractive”, “Others are better than me”, “There is something wrong with me”, “I will never be successful” etc. If you are you will find that areas of your life will start to ‘stink’. These...

There was a great headline in the Evening Standard a couple of weeks ago “101 things to do before we die, just one to go and we’re not even 30”.  It caught my eye – in the newspaper of the person sitting next to me on the tube and I was very happy that as she left, she left behind the newspaper so I could get a good read!    These two friends had made a list of challenges they promised to achieve over a lifetime.  And in the doing of them they got so inspired that they have done them all except one.  This list included joining football team, skydiving, going in a wind tunnel, training as a life guard, working on an organic bee farm, working on a conservation project, the list goes on and on.  One of the most intriguing ones was saying yes to everything for a month – I wonder how that worked out!   As of one of the girls said “there is nothing worse than regret, Sam and I swore we would make the most out of every minute of our lives.  Once we...

Patterns are things that we do on a consistent basis and are done at an unconscious level.   Your patterns of thoughts, language and behaviour will determine the quality of your life and the results that you achieve.   Many of your patterns have come about from influences and experiences from your environment.   Hopefully the environments you have been exposed to have led you to develop healthy patterns.   Unfortunately though there may be patterns that you are following that may not be serving you well in your life.   It is critical to identify any patterns that are not serving you and to interrupt them.   If you are not experiencing the results that you want in various areas of your life an examination of the patterns creating these results is necessary. You will find that a pattern of thoughts, language or behaviour is not allowing you to experience what you desire. Continuing to follow these patterns will lead to the same results occurring ...

I wrote on Facebook recently that when one door closes and another opens.  One of the comments was that not only was this true but many times the door that opens is, more often than not, a better door. This was certainly true for me a few weeks ago.  I live in Spain although the majority of my business is in the UK.   I run workshops, conduct Passion Test for Business Programs with individuals and companies and do quite a lot of networking in London.  To do this we have been hugely supported by a great friend who, for the past few years, has very generously opened the doors of his house to us whenever we needed to be in the UK.  Last week we heard that this was no longer possible and so it was time for us to say a huge thank you to our friend, and find a new London “home”.  My mind went into overdrive and I totally forgot that when one door closes another (often bigger and better) one opens.  I started to fret about how we were going to be able...

For the last 20 years I have read many times that it is very important to have a vision for whatever you want in your life.  Perhaps you’ve heard the same – without vision there is no way you can work out your pathway to your destination.   Over the years I have worked with my clients on creating a personal vision – what they would like to have their life look and feel like when they have brought everything into balance.  It is always much easier to work out the steps you need to take, when you know where you are going.   There are many ways you can do this – at the end of the personal Passion Test we ask all our participants to create a vision board – pictures and sentences that represent their top five passions.  I have created a vision book, a similar idea as the vision board but something more portable.   Only last week when I was chatting to a friend about a new focus for my work she said  “take the morning off and do a new vision board for...

As the saying goes “If you fail to plan you plan to fail”.   The question I would like to ask of you is “Are you investing some time in planning each week?”   Planning helps to set you up for success. So many times people fail to achieve what they want in life due to an absence or lack of adequate planning.   Planning is a worthwhile investment of your time. It is important to make time for it. A small amount of time spent planning can assist you in being more effective with your time and can help you to achieve better outcomes in your life.   Planning helps you to become the creator of your life. It allows you to come up with deliberate strategies/approaches to achieve the outcomes that you want. Your life only happens once so give yourself the time to plan how you want to live and experience it.   Planning keeps you focused on what actions you need to be taking. It provides you with a step by step guide to follow.   Planning can help yo...

I was coaching a Big Stretch recently up in the mountains of Spain.  This is a powerful week-long holiday/course in which we ask the participants to identify an area of their life where they want to stretch and take big steps forward.    As we all know stretching out of your comfort zone is scary.  And it should be!  Any goal that is only exciting is too small and we will grow out it far too quickly.  Any goal that is only scary is too big and we simply won’t go there.  So the right kind of goal is the one that is both scary and exciting!   So much for the theory, but what about the practise?  When you are sitting in front of a big stretchy goal often one of the challenges is “Can I trust myself to be able to handle this?  Will I be able to handle the challenges inherent in this, and succeed?”  We had just this question arise on the course.    Of course there are no guarantees that any decision we take will work ...

We have the council ‘dump your rubbish’ pick up soon and as I see the collection of people’s junk on the pavement, I am reminded of how much stuff we hoard and carry. It is easy to dump it on the lawn and wait for someone else to clear it. After all we use ‘stuff’ and then get tired of it, bored with it or we break it, so we discard it. It is easy. Then we purchase a replacement and the cycle begins again, that is consumerism I guess. Mentally we also carry stuff, wouldn’t it be great to do the same with ‘mental stuff’ we carry, to simply just dump it somewhere to be transported somewhere else.  Well with life coaching we can, we just need to own our own issues and know that what no longer serves us needs to be replaced with more positive and useful thinking. See it this way, why carry issues/stuff from the past that does not serve you any longer, just adds to your concerns and your emotional baggage. Sure we do not forget, but isn’t it better to simply let go of it so we...
