There are many things that are guaranteed in life, paying taxes, death & change are a few that spring to my mind.
Not to mention the fears you'll face & overcome, fears that may last a life time.
Love found with an open heart & love that seems to tear us apart , only to find an inner strength that we didn't know existed.
The one thing that binds them together is change. If this is true? Why are we so resisent to change.
Letting go of the old & embracing the new, it was Karl Jung who said what was once true in the morning of our lives will become a lie in the evening of our lives.
There's another famous quote that goes as follows, "If you always do what you have always done you'll always get what you've always gotten" Unknown
This quote is so true & there are many different ways you can tap into the habit of adapting to change.
Firstly become present to everything that is by focusing on your breath. Notice the changes throughout the day, changes in temperature, a light breeze & changes from day into night.|
Bring into your awareness the peace that comes with this sense of presence. Secondly when you fold your arms, if you normally fold them left over right start folding them right over left & vice versa if you fold your arms right over left. This will give you a physical sense of change.
Another one is to brush your teeth with the opposite hand for a week & you might be surprised at the many other daily actions that you do on automatic pilot.
Lastly change the way you go to & from work each day for a week. Making at least two of the roads different each time. After reflect see where you felt uncomfortable or had feelings of uncertainty with a simple change, because how you do anything is how you do everything!
What you’re doing by completing these exercise's is conditioning yourself for positive change instead of fear of change. The idea being you start off small than work your way into larger changes.
There's a Chinese fable about a wise man who lived outside a large village.
Every Saturday he would come into the main square & the villagers would come to him to be healed or to gain words of wisdom & the wise man had been doing this for years.
There also lived a young strong man who was jealous of the wise one & resented his popularity. The young man had a plan to embarrass the wise one.
He would come into the village square with a dove clasp inside his hands & ask the old man if he knew what was in his hands.
If the old man guessed correctly he would ask another question, was the dove alive or dead. If he said it was alive the young man would break the doves neck. If he said it was dead he would simply open his hands & allow the dove to fly into the sky.
So with his plan in place the young man set off toward the village square in the mid afternoon at the busiest time of day. As he approached the old man, the wise one was busy assisting people with different problems & offering words of wisdom. The young man went through the crowd & walked straight up to the wise one & stated, old man I have a question for you. The wise man turned & smiled yes of course what is it?
The crowd sensing something of a showdown moved in closer. The young man continued my question to you is what do I hold in my hands. The wise one smiled & said well that's easy you have a dove in your hands. The young man chuckled well can you tell me if it is dead or alive? This question seemed to puzzle the wise one & he hesitated to answer.
The young man was quick to keep the old man on the back foot & quipped well old man has the cat got your tongue are you lost for words. The villagers were silent with anticipation as the tension filled the hot afternoon air. The young man continued for years & years you've had an answer for everything! What about now old man what about now! With this last statement the wise man gave his trademark smile & said young man the fate of that dove is in your hands.
So it is with change in your life, it's up to you on how much you resist & there is no need to do it alone.
