Evolve Yourself

Let’s admit it, life is like a constant current, always moving and changing. So we crave routine to make our lives have meaning and purpose, we are working towards a bigger picture. For some this is simply to have a good paying job, a comfortable home and happy family. For others they need adventure in their daily lives and must have some kind of spontaneity in their day. Take a friend I know he is the main breadwinner and has a stressful and demanding  job, he does it so on his time off he can climb mountains and go cross country by motorbike. All the while his wife stays home with the children and he conquers different continents. He loves the escape and freedom this provides and then he comes home to his loving family. He is doing what he needs to do to keep his life in balance. We evolve in different ways; this friend pushes his personal limits on his holidays and comes back refreshed. I on the other hand, enjoy watching movies based on true stories, and I learn about another life, another situation. I also enjoy reading, but this is a pure luxury at the moment when I have an active toddler in the home, perhaps on holidays when another pair of eyes can be watching. I also take interest in world events and how I can we can live a ‘greener’ lifestyle.

How do you evolve yourself? Do you take short courses? Read, play an instrument , active in sports, or are you active in your community? However we do it, we all move towards another direction wherever we like it or not, as others change around us, or our circumstances change. I suggest we become more aware of what activities we indulge in so we are conscious that this is what we really want and fulfils our need. If you are purely doing it for someone else I would question that, as you are the active participant not them. You spend your time making yourself feel good and this means guilt free. Being present in the activity and being consumed by it if necessary, just like my friend. He is totally in the now and needs to be to keep himself safe and in control of his adventure.  If you are engaging in an activity and thinking about the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘should be doing’, then your energy is really not in that moment, you are still somewhere else. Being mindful and present is the key to really be.
So start with your breath, long and deep and let it out and enjoy the moment.
