Testing You

Yesterday a client told me about his dilemma, he is a talented IT professional and gets contract after contract without really looking, his work speaks for itself. He has been in this profession all is adult life and really wants a career change, thus the coaching.

It is interesting that when one contract is about to end the next job just appears for him, yet this is the time when he wants to pull back and re-train in his new path, one which is more alignment with his values and passion. It feels like the universe is testing him each time, here is a job you can do, take it, and he is standing on the fork on the road wondering if job security is more important than learning new skills.

You need to be practical before taking the leap of faith into a new endeavor, as there are many considerations, being the main breadwinner in the family  you have responsibilities, and in my model of the world that takes precedence over anything else. Yet by the same token if you can put time aside and build the skill set in tandem of working in IT, then gradually build up the new path. Ensuring you have good contingency back up. It is a tough situation to be in, you loath the same old work and get excited about learning and practicing new skills. This is the path of change and it will give you what you really value: Flexibility and Freedom.

Sometimes we want a career change and find it difficult to get started, that is why speaking to a career life coach is great, they help you discover your inner truth and what really makes you motivated. When we start our working lives we have certain values about work and what we should be doing, then through time and experience we may change our perception of work and what we really value. Like our freedom to travel, freedom to play with our children, freedom to create each day or simply put “ just wake up and smell the coffee!”

It is just sometimes we need to close one door gradually and another one will open, one which we are manifesting. See this as a new opportunity, one which will allow you to grow and also give you more work satisfaction and ultimately a better lifestyle to pursue your purpose.
