It is so easy to put others first, after all we want to be liked and accepted so we try to fulfill others’ needs before our own. Mums are really good at this, taking care of the family and everyone is happy and cared for. This can leave little time for self-nurturing. And often you find that when you keep putting others first you tend to feel a tad neglected if someone is not taking care of you!

Self love is about that ‘self’ you are responsible for your own happiness and if you expect others to meet this need then you are not looking within you are waiting for the external to make you happy. The ownership rests with you and self loving is a part of that.

It is easy to live a reactive life, as things happen you react accordingly, kids misbehave and you are there to discipline. The house needs cleaning and so you put your cleaning gloves on. The garden needs weeding and there is another job for you over the weekend. Where does it stop? Actually this is your life and it gives you great pleasure and love to take care of your family. Yet you need some ‘me-time’ too without the guilt please.

Yes the guilt factor, why is it that when you step out and actually take time off, all you think about is the family and if they are ok without you? Or whilst you are having a manicure you get a rush of guilt that you forgot to tend to something at home?

Be in the moment and enjoy your time away, feel good about taking care of yourself, being kind and acknowledging that you too need pampering once in a while and some ‘free sans famille time’ that is normal and you deserve the escape.

So be the best example for your family and others and give yourself some five star treatment once in a while. You are your best investment and everybody around you will benefit as you keep on giving.
