Do you ever feel like you start a million projects at once and then end up overwhelmed at the enormity of the task you have set up for yourself?
Yes I can, I am living this at the present moment, my to do list seems to stretch out for miles and all I can manage are the basics, domestics, taking care of our 9 month old and then sporadic emails between her nap time or whilst she plays at my feet.
I want to do more much more in my day; I want to balance this out with creativity, writing contributing to others and focusing on my online business. Yet this is not meant to be, well not in the last few weeks. I pride myself in completing tasks; this gives me so much satisfaction and a sense of completion.
So when I find myself with some precious time, I start 5 things instead of one and then run myself ragged at trying to finish them all, what a chaotic way of being. Totally counter-productive. I know I can do so much more and I need to feel the flow, yet somehow the flow is lost, buried deep in my unconscious mind that if I awaken it, it might surprise me.
And so that is my new game plan, find some kind of flow and only start 2 things at once, then my chances of completing them is higher and the quicker I can feel that satisfaction and move on down my list.
I work colleague of mine does this same thing with her business, she wants to do so much with her next growth phase that she is spending more time and energy running around with each task that she is loosing herself in it. Thus she feels overwhelmed and this brings her to a complete stop at times. As she battles in her head the next strategic move and the ramifications that this will cause the rest of her marketing plan. We cannot live hypothetically this is a sure fire way to really get messed up, anticipating the market, customers, growth and projections, sure good to see the big picture yet you just need to finish one thing first, then move onto the next task. One baby step at a time. This way you are living your business and acting appropriately instead of managing it from a higher level. The next step reveals itself in due course, just trust that step.
Easier said than done! So now it is my turn to practice what I preach..
